can someone please explain what "Hogmanay" is?
"Lance Corporal Thomas Rennie said: 'I can't wait to get back to Scotland for Christmas and New Year and Hogmanay. It's going to be brilliant. I'm going to drink as much beer as possible and get the kilt on and get out on the town.'"
-bbc article about the Black Watch unit's return to Scotland for Christmas.

"It is ordinary among some Plebians in the South of Scotland, to go about from door to door upon New Year`s Eve, crying Hagmane."
